 Hydrophone I - 2005

Hydrophone I was an early experiment exploring water, and underwater space, as an acoustic filer. An excerpt of George Frederic Handel's "Water Music" is played via an underwater speaker and re-recorded by a hydrophone. The 1st generation of the recording is then broadcast back into the water (as well as into the room of the installation space) and a 2nd generation underwater recording is made. The process is continually repeated and harmonic content is gradually stripped away with each generation, resulting in a slowly evolving drone composed of the remaining dominant frequencies.
