Oil is a means for visualizing the on-going civilian death toll resulting from the United States' military intervention in Iraq. A white cube receives real-time reports of civilian casualties via iraqbodycount.net. For each confirmed civilian death reported, the plastic cube is softly illuminated while oil oozes from the top of the box, cascading down the sides and creating expanding, messy, pungent puddles.
