  •  Topographies - 2009

Topographies maps the ear-level amplitude of a single tone emitted from a single source - in this case a speaker. This work is derived from W.C. Sabine's experiments in the 'Constant Temperature Room' from 1910 and represents his process as a means of exploring and experiencing the relationships between sound and space first hand. Additionally, the presence of a visual aid/mapping heightens one's ability to discern extremely subtle differences in amplitude, and enhances the perception of an invisible sonic topography.
